The MANSA Journey is an original five-stage transformational model created by Davis J. Williams to help us look beneath the behaviour of boys who go missing—physically, emotionally or spiritually—and understand what their absence may be communicating.

The journey begins with the Mask: the identity a boy may create to hide fear, pain or vulnerability. He then moves Away from family, community and familiar boundaries, often searching for freedom, safety, identity or belonging. This can lead him into Nia’s Cave—a place of uncertainty where he must confront his fears, wounds and sense of purpose.

With trusted guidance, this encounter can create the Shift: the moment he begins to see himself, his choices and his future differently. He can then Activate—turning pain into purpose, awareness into action and lived experience into positive leadership. The MANSA Journey challenges us to stop asking only,

“Where did he go?” and begin asking, “What happened to him, what is he searching for—and where does he truly feel he belongs?”

This is not about blaming boys or performing manhood. It is about recognising the story beneath the disappearance, restoring connection and guiding boys from survival towards purpose, responsibility and authentic manhood.
