MAG Narrative - Wednesday, 11th December 2024

For the past nine years, every Wednesday evening from 6 PM to 9 PM, a sacred space in North London comes alive as Manhood Academy Global (MAG) gathers young teens journeying from boyhood to manhood. Every week, without reminders or bribes, these young masters show up for our master classes. Rain, sleet, or snow, they ‘pull up.’

These boys understand that manhood is not defined by turning 18 years old. Legally, they may be considered adults, but socially and emotionally, manhood is achieved through a process of growth, universal alignment, self-actualisation, and rites of passage.

Before the teens arrived, MAG Light Workers (youth leaders) activated the space with intention. Uplifting music filled the room, visual enhancements set the tone, and calming scents created an environment of peace and focus. Upon arrival, the young masters were invited to check in outside, leaving their “masks” at the door. Only their authentic selves were welcomed into this sacred space.

After the session’s start—following the Brothers’ Pledge and introductions—the MAG team introduced their Transformational Model. This model, rooted in the elements of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air, illustrated how these forces shape the lives of young Londoners. The MAG team reminded the young masters of the importance of controlling these elements, which reside within each one of them.

Today’s focus was MANSA’s Journey, a roadmap every boy must navigate when stepping into manhood.

MANSA stands for:

M = Mask

A = Away

N = Nia’s Cave

S = Shift

A = Activate

MAG leaders began by breaking down these phases in an engaging and dynamic manner before focusing on the first step: M – Mask.

Tell Us About The Mask You Wear!

A powerful discussion unfolded about the metaphorical masks people wear and the reasons behind them. The young masters resonated deeply as they reflected on their own experiences.

• "I only wear a mask when I feel I can’t show my true emotions—it’s like my armour."

• "To me, wearing a mask means hiding parts of myself to fit in or avoid being judged."

These young masters are beginning to understand…

Several weeks ago, the MAG Light Warriors gave the young masters a sacred task. They were asked to anonymously write down one secret—something that weighed heavily on their minds but they never explored due to shame. These notes had been sealed away until the timing felt right.

Today, that moment arrived.

The sealed secrets were brought out, and the majority were placed on a Spin the Wheel game. One by one, the young masters were invited to spin the wheel. Wherever it landed, the reader was encouraged to share the secret aloud, sparking deep and compassionate discussions in the group.

Heal the Boy - The Man Will Appear

Healing your younger self is the key to growing into a stronger, more confident you. By facing past hurts, you unlock your potential to lead, love, and live with purpose while inspiring others along the way.

The anticipation was palpable as everyone knew that what was written was going to be deep.

Spin 1:

The young master read it to himself first and hid his face in his hands. Why did I get this one?

It read…

"My dad is a waste man... but I feel like I am becoming like him."

This disclosure sparked a profound exploration of fatherhood, identity, and generational cycles. This wasn’t a space for judgment or blame—it was an opportunity for connection, understanding, and growth. They listened maturely to each other’s stories. Not everyone spoke; some listened while others shared.

Spin 2:

"I feel isolated."

A calm silence swept across the room as this secret was revealed. The young masters exchanged neutral glances before the question was posed: “What does it mean to be isolated?”

What followed was a raw and heartfelt discussion. The young masters spoke openly about feeling unwanted at home, being judged, and the pain of feeling invisible in spaces where they longed for attention and care. They listened attentively to one another, sharing stories and emotions without fear of judgment. MAG’s safe space once again proved to be truly special, offering a sanctuary where vulnerability was met with compassion and respect.

Final Segment: Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself

The session concluded with a presentation by a young master named K titled "Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself to You." This presentation was a heartfelt exploration of upgrading oneself—breaking free from old habits, destroying limiting beliefs, and stepping boldly into one’s greatness.

As K stood before his peers, the room quieted, and all eyes were on him. He spoke with clarity and conviction, reflecting on his own journey of transformation. K shared the challenges he had faced, the old patterns he needed to leave behind, and the vision he had for the man he was becoming.

The young masters were captivated. Heads nodded in agreement, and there was a visible sense of pride and admiration in the room. K’s vulnerability and courage to share his journey left everyone inspired and motivated to embark on their own paths of self-reinvention. K had invited his mum, who was there to witness his testimony. She was proud and honoured to see her son declare his intentions in such a bold and activating way.

You see… MAG is more than a charity; it’s a movement and a transformative force. It provides a safe and sacred environment where young men can shed societal masks, embrace their vulnerabilities, and discover their inner power. This session demonstrated MAG’s unwavering commitment to transformation and empowerment—guiding young masters toward becoming the confident, resilient men they are destined to be.

Transform. Empower. Inspire.
