Heal the Boy: An Apology to the Generation We Left Uninitiated

+

If you are reading this, it means you have paused long enough to consider something many of us avoid — reflection. Not the comfortable kind, but the honest kind. The kind that asks us to look again at our roles, our silences, and the spaces where good intentions may not have been enough.

This piece is not light reading, and it was never meant to be. It was written with care, grief, responsibility, and hope — and I appreciate you taking the time to sit with it rather than scroll past it.

There are moments when silence becomes participation.

Not because we intended harm, but because we mistook comfort for wisdom, time for patience, and avoidance for peace. In communities like ours, silence has often worn the mask of survival. We told ourselves things would work themselves out. That boys would grow into men simply by aging. That pain would soften on its own.

It didn’t.

Many of our young people were asking questions long before they found answers in places that could not protect them. They were signalling distress in ways we didn’t recognise, didn’t want to name, or didn’t feel equipped to hold. By the time we paid attention, the cost was already unbearable.

This piece is not written from a place of moral authority.
It is written from responsibility.

It is...Read More

Did she know her son was becoming a killer?

In August 2025, I sat across from a mother whose son I had been supporting for 18 months. He had been referred to me by social services because he was described as vulnerable.

How It Started: A Boy, Not a “Concern”

When I first met her son, connection came easily. We both supported Arsenal. He loved Anime. Rapport was natural. He was bright, curious, playful — a child.

Like many young people I work with, he was living inside layers of influence: older males on his estate, mainstream media pushing negative narratives that later become their truth, social pressure, and additional narratives about what manhood looks like when guidance is absent.

Between the ages of seven and nine, he received devastating news about his father. That moment never left him.

When I reviewed his records, a pattern was clear. From that point on, the decline began. The boy who had once been described as “cute” and “innocent” <span...Read More

I’ve sat in living rooms, schools, court buildings, community centres, and youth clubs. I’ve had difficult conversations before — about exclusion, exploitation, violence, and loss.

But recently, I had one of the hardest conversations of my career.

I had to sit with a parent and tell her that her son was on a path where he could end up killing someone — or being killed himself.

There is no training that prepares you for that moment.
There is no gentle way to say it.
And there is no version of that conversation that doesn’t leave a mark.

This blog is a reflection on that moment — and everything that led up to it.

It is not written to criticise a parent, nor to attack professionals. It is written to explore what happens when early warning signs are seen but not fully named, when risk is managed instead of addressed, and when boys grow up without clear guidance on what manhood actually is.

<span...Read More

Session Title – Fathers, Absence and the Stories Boys Carry

Date: The day before Mother’s Day (March 2026)
Location: MAG HQ
Session Led By: MAG Facilitators
Participants: 9 young masters (Ages 9–11)
Duration: 3 Hours

At MAG, we do not rush development.
We understand that boys do not become men by accident — they are shaped, guided, challenged and held.

Our work is rooted in a simple but powerful understanding:

Behaviour is communication.
And beneath every behaviour is a story waiting to be understood.

We create spaces where young masters are not judged by what they show on the surface, but supported to explore what sits underneath — their emotions, their identity, their relationships and the silent influences shaping their decisions.

This session was a reflection of that approach.

It was not a lecture.
It was not a lesson to complete.

It was a carefully held experience — one that engaged the body, the mind and the emotions, allowing truth to surface in a way that felt safe, human and real.

Session Context

Working with boys aged 9, 10 and 11 places us at a critical point in their development.

This is the stage where beliefs begin to form with weight.
Where experiences start to settle into identity.
Where silence, if left unchallenged, begins to shape behaviour.

This session, taking place the day...Read More

14+1 Things to Expect if You Don’t Address Your Child’s Lack of Emotional Intelligence

Families, let’s be real. Too many of us give our boys everything except the tools for emotional growth. We buy the trainers, push the grades, pay for sports — but forget the soil of emotional intelligence.

Imagine planting an apple or mango tree. You give it sunlight but no water. Or water but no light. Or worse, no soil. What happens? It grows crooked, weak, and half-dead.

That’s what happens when you raise a boy without emotional intelligence. And society won’t fix it. Schools won’t fix it. That’s not their function. It’s ours — the family, the village, the community.

Ignore this, and you don’t just fail your child. You prepare for a future filled with emotionally dead men. What role will they play? Who will they protect? Who will they love? Who will they lead?

Now, after nine months of your pain and sacrifice to bring a child into the world — what will you do, what will you say, if that same child rips your heart out later because he never learned what to do with emotions?

Here are 14+1 things you can expect if you don’t step in.

14+1 Things to Expect if You Don’t Address Your Child’s Lack of Emotional Intelligence

<span style="color:...Read More

FEED THE RIGHT WOLF

Every Week, Across London…

Every week, across London, I meet young people in spaces near their homes—cafés, parks, community centres, wherever they feel comfortable. These aren’t just conversations; they’re intense, one-to-one sessions, lasting 1-2 hours, designed to challenge, inspire, and shift mindsets.

Some of these young people are standing at crossroads. Some are wrestling with decisions that could shape the rest of their lives. Others are fighting battles no one sees. My role? To help them see beyond the moment, to equip them with the tools to take control of their story.

Here’s an account of a powerful exchange I had recently. One that stayed with me. One that might just stay with you too.

The Crossroads

ST sat across from me, arms crossed, his body still, but his mind restless. His jaw was tight, his fingers tapping lightly against the table—small movements, but they spoke volumes. I’d seen this before.

This wasn’t just about a decision.

This was about identity. About who he was going to be.

"Talk to me, bro," I said, watching him closely.

He exhaled, shaking his head. *"It's mad right now. People are testing me. If I don’t handle it, I look weak."

I nodded slowly. He was standing at the second stage of MANSA's Journey—the Away Stage.

That moment before the moment. The fork in the road where one path is easy, familiar, and lined with people telling you it’s the only way. And the other? That road is harder, full of obstacles, full of challenges—but it’s the one that leads somewhere greater.

"Before you make a choice, let me tell you a story," I said.
<p class="...Read More

I needed a break from the constant violence, the sadness that seemed to hang over everything, and the feeling that our community was on a downward spiral. And guess what? Here we are, 9 years later, and it feels like we're still stuck in the same rut.

Scrolling through social media, it's like everyone's just… resigned. No one's really angry anymore. No one's fighting back. It's like we've accepted that things are going to get worse, and we're all just trying to find a way to profit from the chaos. We're not even trying to fix things anymore. We're experts at managing decline. I know theres no magic wand, I know social engineering takes decades (in some cases), but we are not even having the conversation anymore.

Ever heard of that frog experiment?
MAG Narrative - Wednesday, 11th December 2024

For the past nine years, every Wednesday evening from 6 PM to 9 PM, a sacred space in North London comes alive as Manhood Academy Global (MAG) gathers young teens journeying from boyhood to manhood. Every week, without reminders or bribes, these young masters show up for our master classes. Rain, sleet, or snow, they ‘pull up.’

These boys understand that manhood is not defined by turning 18 years old. Legally, they may be considered adults, but socially and emotionally, manhood is achieved through a process of growth, universal alignment, self-actualisation, and rites of passage.

Before the teens arrived, MAG Light Workers (youth leaders) activated the space with intention. Uplifting music filled the room, visual enhancements set the tone, and calming scents created an environment of peace and focus. Upon arrival, the young masters were invited to check in outside, leaving their “masks” at the door. Only their authentic selves were welcomed into this sacred space.

After the session’s start—following the Brothers’ Pledge and introductions—the MAG team introduced their Transformational Model. This model, rooted in the elements of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air, illustrated how these forces shape the lives of young Londoners. The MAG team reminded the young masters of the importance of controlling these elements, which reside within each one of them.

Today’s focus was MANSA’s Journey, a roadmap every boy must navigate when stepping into manhood.

MANSA stands for:

M = Mask

A = Away

N = Nia’s Cave

S = Shift

A = Activate

MAG leaders began by breaking down these phases in an engaging and dynamic manner before focusing on the first step: M – Mask.

Tell Us About The Mask You Wear!

A powerful discussion unfolded about the metaphorical masks people wear and the reasons behind them.

A mum sent me a voice message on Whatsapp the other day asking me about tips for her son who is about to start Secondary School. With her permission here is my response.

Please share if you found value, please excuse any grammatical errors, I wasn't trying to be perfect.

-----------

Blessings sis,

Thanks for your Whatsapp message, it was received whilst drinking a glass of soursop, seamoss and pineapple juice. Can you believe that I paid £18 for soursop?

Sorry for late reply also, you know how it gets, if I ever take long dont take it personally, it just means I have not read the message, feel free to call. No issues there!

I was going to reply via voicenote but nah! This email was necessary.

Sooooooo!

You recently asked me for some tips to help prepare your son for secondary school, and I thought long and hard about how best to respond. This transition is a significant milestone, not only for him but for you as well, I WAnted to give it time and attention I hope you did not mind, but I modified your question to allow me to go deeper.

I felt that manhood was the underlying purpose here. If you get these points and able to implement it, school will not be an issue, I promise.

We are now in September, I know you are excited to watch your young son embark on this important journey, Year 6, BIG BOY SCHOOL!!! This transition reflects traditions in many Indigenous cultures, where boys leave the safety of their homes and mummies at around 11 - 12 years old to begin their rites of passage into manhood, I am sure you have heard me mention this. However, as highlighted in the book Gifted at Primary, Failing at Secondary School, written by brother Neil Mayers (Google it), navigating Secondary School can be challenging, particularly for young boys who may not be equipped with the necessary tools for this critical rite of passage.

Walk with me...Read More
